Meet Shelly, Founder of the Hive, and New Member of the Go Local Austin Rewards Program

Shelly Weiser recently opened the Hive, a co-working and child care business aimed at addressing the many needs of working parents. And she’s doing a lot to give Austinites more reasons to support local businesses! Shelly began as a freelance graphic designer, working from home while simultaneously supervising two toddlers. “If I had a project or a last-minute website catastrophe, there was nowhere to go,” she said. And so, necessity being the mother of invention, the Hive was born at this ranch-style home located in South Austin at 10415 Old Manchaca Road near Moontower Saloon.
Shelly’s desire was “to create a sort of ‘hive,’ a community where we all work together, for the worker bees, the business bees, and the lazy bees,” she said. The Hive is a brand new concept for South Austin, offering parents and friends some much-needed time to get things done – whether working or just visiting with friends – while their little ones enjoy playing in a safe and fun on-site supervised area. The Hive offers many opportunities for business networking and local events, while also providing delicious local food, coffee, craft beer and wine.

Open seating is available in the cafe area and lounge, where all are welcome to visit or work at no charge. There are beautiful, shady areas outside with picnic tables and toys for the kids. The Hive also offers co-working desks for rent monthly (includes childcare, printing, wifi, 24/7 access), a board room available to rent hourly (projector and white board available), and a beautiful indoor and outdoor space perfect for meetings or just solo-working.
Childcare is available for up to 20 kids at a time, so it is best to reserve a spot online. Parents are required to stay on-site, and children may stay up to 4 hours a day.

The Hive is bound to become a local Austin attraction. There are always a number of events and activities planned, from craft and story time for the children, to massage and headshot day for the self-employed. You can grab a great cup of coffee in the morning, or unwind with some goat yoga and a craft beer in the evening. Shelly strives to meet the needs of families and local business entrepreneurs because she knows and understands the demands of working and parenting life.
